Totally relate to this. Although I will admit, fear of rejection has kept me in jobs and relationships that I knew were killing me but that pain felt more manageable than the pain of rejection. So, yes, rejection HURTS! Thank you for putting this into words. (I ate a whole bag of popcorn last night. Shout out to those who use popcorn as a solution!)

have TOTALLY been there... when did the screws come loose that we thought staying in bad situations were better than the potential of rejection?? did we just buy the BS that the devil you is better than the devil you don't?

popcorn for the win. such a popcorn junkie over here.

I love this. I need time to absorb, and process, and then I will come back with a better comment. In the meantime, there is nothing wrong with eating popcorn like a "savage." At least that's what I tell myself. And the crumbs I make.

I mean… that’s why we have pets right? To eat our crumbs? lol

And, thank you ☺️

This was such a good read. I too am trying to figure out life with rejection. I’m usually good at swinging it to a positive but more in as a coping mechanism than a true positive swing so I don’t know how long I’ll be able to fool myself with this. 😬 That is interesting about the Tylenol. I’m going to a birthday party tonight where a couple of those judgy friends will be. I’m getting prepared now for the patronizing “how’s the writing?” questions…like it’s just so cute that I quit my job for this. I may pop a couple Tylenol. 😂

Really fantastic essay, B. (On laptop, or would add several clapping emojis.) You articulate all the angles of rejection sooo well. The idea of rejection as a sign of access was really thought-provoking. I've thought about rejection A LOT, but never quite through this lens, which makes it feel more palatable and glass-half-full (will stop with the wine analogies now ;). Thank you for sharing all of this. <3

PS - Your title "Rejection is my Cardio" is perfection. I'm obsessed.

PPS - So glad we've become writing group buddies! YOU are helping ME!!

Never stop the wine analogies!!!! Thank you. Trying to reframe it helps me (mostly) feel more positive about where I am in any process.

I think many of us can relate to this and I believe it’s in this moment you step away… you push it away and you think of something you have always wanted to do in your life but never had the time or didn’t think you could. You try something fun and you do that for awhile and then during that time God comes along and says now is the time for that book deal, now is the time for that baby. God has a plan, trust it. In the mean time step out of your comfort zone and create something where rejection is not possible. I have found it in gardening .. I never imagined I would be a gardener.
