It is very normal that you should recall the event in Brazil in a different way. Given the fact that it was a traumatic event, your subconscious mind processed it in order to protect you from the trauma. That way, the event was buried deep into your memory so you did not have to experience the scene again and again as it often happens in PTSD.

As for our memory in general, what matters is the way we live through the event, what emotions and feelings we remain with. They are like mental and emotional layers that pile up in our brain and leave us either with positive or negative perceptions.

Loved this. I’m writing personal essays on here and every now and then I’ll have someone tell me my version isn’t really accurate. I never actually care. Memories are fickle but their mine so 🤷🏽‍♀️
